IEW for Mid Grades: Narnia Part 2
with Mrs. Christine
Tuesday @ 3:00
Fall 2024 semester dates: Weeks of September 2 - December 13
(No class on the week of October 6 or Nov. 25)
This semester's writing class will integrate literature, history, and language arts to create an engaging and comprehensive writing experience. We will use the text 'Following Narnia: Volume 2' as a guiding resource, supplemented by weekly grammar exercises from the 'Fix It' series. Our curriculum, based on the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW), aims to enhance students' writing skills by providing structured guidance while fostering independence and creativity. Students will learn nine structural models to organize their thoughts and develop confidence as writers. As they progress, they will gradually explore stylistic techniques, advancing from foundational to more sophisticated writing. Each student will be encouraged to work at their own pace towards becoming thoughtful and proficient writers. It is recommended that students have a copy of 'Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader' for semester 1 to follow along with the readings for this class.
