As scholars embark on their exploration of the Revolutionary Era, we delve into the profound impact of freedom on our lives. Through critical discussions, we examine the significance of freedom and the individual responsibilities needed to safeguard it. Our journey continues with an in-depth study of influential figures such as John Adams and George Washington, offering insights into their contributions to shaping the concept of freedom. To enhance our comprehension of the language of freedom, we analyze original documents like The Declaration of Independence. Through examining the sacrifices made by the founding generation for freedom, students are prompted to ponder deep questions such as, 'Why is a moral people essential for good government?' Throughout the two-semester course, students engage in studying pivotal events of the era and share their learnings through class presentations. To prepare for the class, students are required to obtain and begin reading 'The Red Scarf Girl' by Ji-Li Jiang, with additional book recommendations provided on the first day of class.
