This world history class will examine pivotal events spanning from the mid-18th century to the present day, exploring significant turning points that have shaped the modern world. Throughout the course, we will delve into the rise of democratic ideals, tracing their origins from ancient societies to the development of Western political thought. Beginning with the Age of Enlightenment, we will journey through the industrial revolution, the two world wars, and into contemporary global affairs. Our studies will encompass various countries, exploring the struggles and advancements of nations worldwide. This two-semester course will involve readings and research outside of class to deepen understanding and engagement with the material.
